Construction sands range from medium to fine bedding to superfine and are available for delivery to the construction industry. Bulk sands are ideal to use when making underfloor screed, specialised concrete or mortar and render. They can also be used as a base for concrete slabs and filling around pipes. Also manufactured are specialised sands with a high hydraulic rate (drainage rate) which are ideal for environmentally friendly ‘filtration’ zones in new developments.

Sands in Construction

 

Sand is a very important construction material. It is a fine aggregate which is either natural or in the form of crushed stones and crushed gravel sand. It is finer than gravel and coarser than silt.Sand is a basic raw material used in the construction industries. It is fine aggregate having the particle size between 150 microns and 4.75 mm.

 

Sand should be clean and well graded (all particles that have the almost same size). Fine aggregates should be durable and free from gritty particles and injurious particles like dust, kankar, soft and flaky particles of shale.

There are different methods for testing of sand quality at construction site for concrete construction. Quality of sand is as much of importance as other materials for concrete.
